In the beginning God created the earth, the sky, and the sun, moon and stars. He created all the animals and every living thing. He created man in his own image. “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
God made no mistake when He created man with a beard. We as the creatures created by God are not to reply against Him and say, “Why hast thou made me thus?” (Romans 9:20). We need to respect the distinctions between male and female as created by God.
The prophet Isaiah in chapter 50 verse 6 says of our Savior, “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.”
As sons of God we wear the beard in obedience and respect to our Creator and because of our love for Christ who left us an example that we should follow. See John 13:15-16.
Worldly fashion should not determine if and how the beard is worn. A Christian’s appearance will portray the likeness of his Lord.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2).
